Stone Ruins was an installation I made in 2023 at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, in a space called the "Bright Room". After spending a period of time collecting rough pieces of stone that were discarded during the process of making sculptures in the Sculpture Department, I created a web-like structure by tying the stones together with wool yarn and suspending them in the space.
Although I originally made the work as an installation at Mimar Sinan, at Fresh Ankara, at the ATO Ankara Congress Centre, it turned into a performance.
The installation in the Bright Room also lasted for four days. Afterwards, I was suddenly asked to remove it because the room had to be used for something else. The stones, which had already been discarded once, were able to meet an audience again for only another four days.
I started thinking about how artworks also have a life after they are made. As they move from one space to another, they can come alive again through new stories and new audiences, or they can end up gathering dust in the corner of a room.
